Yet we are so out of touch with the routine needs of our own emotional well-being.
The best way to avoid a breakdown is maintenance. “We all need it, but there’s something about mental health, whether it’s anxiety, depression, or whatever, that we somehow don’t think is worth doing. ‘get help, or it’s not bad enough that we need help until it’s totally debilitating and we’re completely nonfunctional, ”says Curtis.
Curtis says maintenance includes balance. “You have your social life; working life; domestic and family responsibilities. Each of these unique areas might start showing signs of stress. So take a look at them and ask yourself if I am feeling emotionally overwhelmed? Do I start to think, “How long can I keep doing this?” So know that this is the time to get help.

Exercising for mental health is something Curtis subscribes to, noting that it’s a way of self-worth. “I use daily exercise to deal with my own depression and anxiety, and maybe exercise isn’t what works for everyone, but when we are committed to taking care of our bodies and what we put in our body, we also care for our minds and our emotions.
